Girls 3200 Meter Run 5A
SA Alamo Heights jr Abby Gray is the top returner (3rd), an NXN finalist, and clocked 5A#1 10:44.97 to win District.


Boys 3200 Meter Run 5A
Frisco Independence jr Carter Blunt is the defending champ and moved to TX all-time #16 with his 8:57.01 Jesuit-Sheaner win.  He also won State XC followed by strong runs at both NXN and Foot Locker Nationals.  North Forney sr Kyle Garcia earned bronze last year.

Girls 4x100 Meter Relay 5A
Top teams include:
Arlington Seguin TX#5/US#21 46.62 (Area), Bush TX#9/US#26 46.68, McKinney North TX#19/US#53 47.11.

Boys 4x100 Meter Relay 5A
Top teams include:
Lancaster TX#4/US#7 40.85 (District), George Ranch TX#5/US#8 40.88, Mansfield Legacy TX#9/US#12 40.95, and FB Marshall TX#10/US14 41.02.

Girls 800 Meter Run 5A
Foster sr Kristyn Williams is the top returner (bronze) and won Region III in TX#3/US#14 2:10.01.  Ridge Point soph Halle McClintock was 7th as a frosh and has improved this year to TX#9 2:12.00.

Boys 800 Meter Run 5A
This could be close.  Ellison sr Jaqwae’ Ellison looks to move up from last year’s silver, but lost a tight Region IV race to Vela sr Reagan Olguin, TX#3 1:53.12 to TX#4 1:53.33.  Meanwhile Creekview sr Conner Julian was taking Region I in a quicker TX#2 1:53.00 ahead of Wilson sr Luca Chatham’s TX#8 1:53.55.

Girls 100 Meter Hurdles 5A
Arlington Seguin sr Tonea Marshall is a solid favorite based on last year’s silver and wind-legal TX#1/US#2 13.44 Region I title.  She also won Texas Relays in a windy 13.27 (+4.0).  Her top challenger could be Creekview sr Sami Gonzalez, the Region runner-up in TX#5/US#23 13.92 and last year’s bronze medalist.

Boys 110 Meter Hurdles 5A
Fort Bend Marshall is looking for big points here.  Marshall sr Kendall Sheffield earned the Region III crown in TX#1/US#2 13.55 (w1.3), ahead of teammate sr Amere Lattin’s TX#4/US#7 13.74.  They were 1-3 in 2014, and Sheffield added silver as a soph.

Girls 100 Meter Dash 5A
Texas City sr Melicha Smith is back after claiming silver last year.  Prosper sr Chassity Love was the fastest Region winner with 11.71w (+2.8).

Boys 100 Meter Dash 5A
The lone returner is Willis sr John Lewis (4th) and he showed good form with an all-conditions TX#1 Texas Relays win in 10.36w (+3.6).

Girls 4x200 Meter Relay 5A
Top teams are:
Arlington Seguin TX#8/US#13 1:38.11, FB Marshall TX#9/US#14 1:38.12, Smith TX#12/US#20 1:38.97, and Longview TYX#12/US#20 1:38.97.

Boys 4x200 Meter Relay 5A
In the deepest 5A field from a national perspective, the fastest squads are:
FB Marshall TX#3/US#3 1:24.26 (all-time US#18 at Texas Relays), Lancaster TX#4/US#5 1:24.69, Mansfield Legacy TX#5/US#6 1:25.85,  Caprock TX#7/US#8 1:25.02, Temple TX#10/US#13 1:25.72, McKinney North TX#12/US#15 1:25.90, and Arlington Heights TX#17/US#21 1:26.19.

Girls 400 Meter Dash 5A
Willis jr Teona Spivey is the defending champ, but was 2nd at Region III to Bush sr Jarra Owens.  Owens was 3rd in the largest schools classification last year, and sped a TX#1/US#11 54.33 at TSU Relays in March.  Chapin jr Jadsia Warden clocked TX#11 55.41 and Rockwall-Heath jr Chiamaka Ene TX#14 55.62 in their respective Region prelims.  Lancaster srTaylor Rockwell won bronze last year, but didn’t advance from the tough Region I.

Boys 400 Meter Dash 5A
The top returners are Waco sr Wilbert London III (3rd) and Lancaster sr Eric Age (5th).  London posted the best Region time, clocking TX#4/US#8 46.82.  Age zipped 5A#1/TX#2/US#4 46.42 at District.

Girls 300 Meter Hurdles 5A
Defending champ Creekview sr Samantha (Sami) Gonzalez holds the current US#1 with her blazing 41.21 Region II victory.  The U of Miami signee should increase her medal haul in both hurdle races.  2014 runner-up Kingwood Park sr Friddaus Amadu had the next best region time, taking Region II in 42.93 after an earlier TX#9/US#37 42.80 for Texas Relays 4th.  Older sister Mariam was a 3-time champ, graduating in 2011.

Boys 300 Meter Hurdles 5A
Canyon jr Norman Grimes is the top returner (3rd) and is the current US#1 with his 36.10 Texas Relays winner.  He’ll be challenged by a State champ, as Donna sr Vince Castillo drops to 5A after taking the largest classification (now called 6A) in 2014.  Legacy sr Garrett Moore clocked TX#4/US#8 36.95 at Area and Galena Park sr Fletcher Sherrard won Region III in TX#8/US#17 37.26.

Girls 200 Meter Dash 5A
2014 gold medalist Bastrop sr Glorilisha Carter is back.  Her challengers include Prosper sr Chassity Love who won Region II in 23.92w.

Boys 200 Meter Dash 5A
Lancaster sr Reggie Garner clocked TX#1 all-conditions 20.71 (nwi) at District.  FB Marshall soph Shamon Ehiemua struck gold at Region III in TX#2 all-conditions 20.89w (+2.2).Burges jr Dartez Hamlin is the top returner (7th).

Girls 1600 Meter Run 5A
College Station sr Kelsie Warren posted 5A#1/TX#13 5:01.06 at Area.  Lumberton sr Jordan Welborn claimed Region III in 5A#2/TX#14 5:01.85.  Alamo Heights jr Abby Gray is the top returner (3rd).

Boys 1600 Meter Run 5A
Defending champ Frisco Independence jr Carter Blunt dropped a TX#1/US#39 4:12.46 at Jesuit-Sheaner.

Girls 4x400 Meter Relay 5A
Tops teams are:
Lancaster TX#3/US#13 3:46.27, George Ranch TX#10/US#30 3:48.05, FB Marshall US#36 3:49.06, and McKinney North US#40 3:49.88

Boys 4x400 Meter Relay 5A
Fastest squads are:
