Texas State Meet Recap 2022 - Natalie Cook Smashes 2 State Records To Lead Flower Mound

Natalie Cook (9:48/4:40), Samantha Humphries (2:07) Lead Dominant Distance Effort For Flower Mound Girls; Darius Rainey Wins 400/800 Double For Summer Creek

Natalie Cook and her teammates at Lewisville Flower Mound showed unprecedented dominance in the distance events at the Texas UIL Outdoor Championsihps last weekend and won the Class 6A title. 

Cook, an all-time great in high school distance running, ran the second-fastest 3,200 meters in prep history, running 9:48.25 as teammates Samantha Humphries (10:23.68) and Alexandra Fox (10:36.48) finished second and third. 

In the 1,600 meters, Cook won it with another state meet record in 4:40.29, and sophomore twins Samantha Humphries and Nicole Humphries crossed nearly together for second and third in 4:53.50 and 4:53.59.

In those two events, Flower Mound scored 48 points.

Samantha Humphries also ran a personal-best 2:07.68 to win the 800 meters. 

And Riley Ward, a junior, won the high jump (5-10) after coming back from an ACL injury. 

Humble Summer Creek beat runner-up Duncanville, 70-60, for the boys 6A title. 

The U.S. leaders in the 4x400 relay, Summer Creek ran 3:10.36 with star Darius Rainey on the final carry. 

Rainey, a USC recruit, split 45.87. He also showed even more of his unique talent by winning the 400-meter title in 46.36 for US#7 as well as the 800 in US#12 1:50.63.

Teammate Donovan Bradley doubled up in the hurdles and took second in the 110-meter hurdles (13.71) and third in the 300s (37.18). 

And Aaron Davis won the long jump with 25-3.75. 

The Duncanville boys ran 39.98 to win the 4x100 relay, tying for fifth-best in prep history. Klein Forest, second in 40.11, moved to No. 15 all-time.

Klein Forest won the boys 4x200 in 1:23.37, moving to No. 3 all-time.

In Class 5A, Fort Bend Marshall dashed and hurdled its way to a team sweep. 

In a state meet where relay wins are worth 20 points, the Marshall girls scored 44 points across the 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 relays. 

Tairah Johnson won the 100-meter hurdles in 13.62w. 

The Fort Bend Marshall boys won the 5A 4x200 in 1:23.60, rising to No. 8 all-time. 

Arveyon Davis and Chris Brinkley went 3-4 in the boys 110-meter hurdles final. In the 300 hurdles, Brinkley and Davis were 3-4 in that event. 

It was also a tremendous meet for girls pole vaulting. 

First, in Class 2A, Ella Strickland of Junction produced a huge personal record when she jumped 13-9.25 for US#8.

Two days later, in the 6A meet, Molly Haywood of Tomball Memorial jumped 14-3. She is tied for US#3 at 14-4.
