DeSoto sr Kira White earned 2015 silver in 11.48w, 2014 gold, and won her Area this season in 11.47 (nwi) TX#2/US#4 all-conditions.  Horn jr Kaylor Harris clocked 11.36w (+3.6) TX#1/US#2 in the Region II prelims (11.67 w+0.1 Final) and claimed Texas Relays honors in 11.58 (+1.5) TX#2/US#6 wind-legal.  Cy Springs jr Samiyah Samuels will be looking to improve on her 2015 bronze.

 

Boys 100   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Clear Brook sr Brandon Taylor took 3rd last year in 10.40 (+1.8), has a season best 10.26 (nwi) TX#2/US#3 at Area, and struck Texas Relays gold in 10.50 (+0.8).  Atascocita sr Jace Comick sped 10.17w (+3.9) in the Region II prelims (US#1 all-conditions) and won the final in 10.42 (+1.5) TX#1/US#4 wind-legal, holding off Rowlett jr Joseph Sheffield in 10.49 TX#4/US#10.  Defending champ Sachse sr Devin Duvernay (10.27 +1.8w) did not compete this season.

 

Girls 200   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Cedar Hill sr Danyel White is the top returner (bronze) and is on a roll of 23.26 (nwi, all-conditions US#2) at District and 23.29 (+1.9) TX#1/US#2 at Region I.  Marcus fr Taryn Hankins trailed at Region I, but her 23.71 is TX#4/US#11.  Klein sr Imani Nave won the Region II title in 23.82 (-0.1) TX#5/US#17.  Cy Springs sr Sierra Smith is the other returner (6th).

 

Boys 200   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

This race appears to be wide-open.  Mansfield soph Jackson Gleeson was 5th last year.  Marcus sr Ian Braxton is the other returner (7th) and just claimed Region I honors in 21.12w (+2.3) ahead of Gleeson’s 21.23w.  Atascocita sr Jace Comick won Region II in 21.06 (+1.3) TX#4/US#10 wind-legal.

 

Girls 400   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Defending champ McKinney Boyd sr Aaliyah Miller is obviously fast, but also had the strength to win the 1600 as a soph!  She’ll be going for State title #6 if she wins the earlier 800.  Dekaney sr Natashia Jackson earned bronze in 2015 and her 54.17 District mark is TX#3/US#21.  Judson sr Mariah Kuykendoll ruled Region IV in 54.63 TX#4.

 

Boys 400   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

North Crowley sr Jamarkus Burks won Region I in 46.87 TX#2/US#11, ahead of Lewisville jr Jadon Johnson in 47.09 TX#4/US#16 and Euless Trinity soph Cameron Jones in 47.16 TX#5/US#17.  Manvel jr Howard Fields is the top returner (6th) and claimed Region III in 47.16 TX#6/US#19.  Defending champ Arlington Martin sr Keshun Martin ran relays in the state qualifying series instead of the 400.

 

Girls 800   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

McKinney Boyd sr Aaliyah Miller is the 2-time State champ and clocked all-time TX#3/US#67 2:05.94 to win the 2015 TX Meet of Champions.  She added the State 1600 title as a soph and the 400 last year.  She’s rounding into form with a 2:09.76 TX#2/US#14 Region I victory.  Katy sr Christine Terhune hopes to move up from her 2015 bronze and ran 2:10.76 TX#3/US#28 at Region III.  However Jersey Village jr Morgan Stewart beat Terhune at Region III and has a 2:09.60 TX#1/US#9 Rice winner to her credit which is also all-time TX#19.

 

Boys 800   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Midland sr Bryce Hoppel is the top returner (silver) and struck Region I gold in 1:50.89 TX#1/US#8/all-time TX#42.  Arlington Martin jr Cade Bethmann was 2nd in Region I in 1:52.40 TX#3/US#26.  CC King sr Parker Scott earned 2015 bronze and has a season best 1:53.56 TX#11.  Smithson Valley sr Tristen McNeal won Region IV in 1:52.98 TX#6.

 

Girls 1600   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

This is a stacked field.  Defending champ Houston Lamar jr Julia Heymach set the state meet record of 4:40.97 and has a season best 4:50.49 TX#2/US#17 from Area.  Her 4:39.68c last year (converted 4:41.31 mile) is all-time TX#2.  Rouse sr Madie Boreman, a Colorado signee, won Texas Relays in 4:50.36 TX#1/US#16, was 4th here last year, and is all-time TX#5 at 4:44.57c.  Abilene jr Ashton Endsley earned 2015 bronze in 4:48.18 all-time TX#10 and has a season best 4:54.16 TX#4 Region I win.  New Braunfels sr Paige Hofstad has a 4:50.58 all-time TX#14 on her resume.  Marcus sr Maddy Reed was 5th last year and has a 4:52.89 all-time TX#24 to her credit.  Opting for the 400-800 double is McKinney Boyd sr Aaliyah Miller who ran 4:50.17 all-time TX#13 as a soph.

 

Boys 1600   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

SL Carroll jr Reed Brown was 2nd in 2015 and his recent 4:07.17 TX#1/US#3 Region I title is all-time TX#16.  He’ll face-off again with NB Canyon jr Sam Worley who was 3rd last year (they also went 2-3 in 2015’s 3200) and clocked 4:09.00 TX#2/US#8 at Region IV which is all-time TX#30.  Midland sr Bryce Hoppel is the other returner and hopes to improve from 8th, but he’ll again be doubling back from the 800.

 

Girls 3200   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Houston Lamar jr Julia Heymach is the defending champ and her 10:14.62 winner is all-time TX#4/US#93. She’s had a low-key season so far coming off an injury (opened with a sprint medley anchor at Texas Relays) and has been untested with a season best 10:41.23 at District. Abilene jr Ashton Endsley was 5th last year in all-time TX#31 10:35.35 (also 5th as a freshman), had a superb cross country season including NXN South 1st and NXN Nationals 6th, and won this year’s Texas Relays before posting the leading Region time of 10:34.77. New Braunfels sr Paige Hofstad claimed Region IV gold in 10:50.43 and is on the comeback trail from battling injuries for a year after earning State bronze as a freshman and sophomore as well as NXN XC Nationals 2nd and Foot Locker 4th as a junior. She’s all-time TX#11 with a soph best 10:25.89. Rouse sr Madie Boreman clocked a season best 10:42.68 to win Region II, is a 3-time NXN qualifier, and clocked all-time TX#11 10:24.7 (TX freshman record).  

 

Boys 3200   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

SL Carroll jr Reed Brown claimed silver last year in 9:00.82, a TX soph record and all-time TX#26.  That was just enough to hold off NB Canyon jr Sam Worley in 9:01.43 all-time TX#30 who’d set the 9:01.66 soph record 2 weeks earlier at his Region (besting Brad Hauser’s 9:01.76 from 1993).  Brown has a season best 9:01.43 TX#1/US#23 from Area while Worley is right behind with 9:04.51 TX#2 at Texas Relays. Both ran NXN last fall as did Eastwood jr Daniel Bernal who won Region I with 9:06.15 TX#3.

 

Girls 100 Hurdles   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

DeSoto sr Alexis Duncan is the 2-time defending champ and topped Region II in 13.38 (+1.7) TX#2/US#6 wind-legal.  She won the 2014 NB Outdoor Nationals in 13.33 and was 2nd in the indoor 60-meter hurdles this year.  Mayde Creek jr Javlyn Cameron earned 2015 bronze and ran 13.62w (+3.8) all-conditions TX#3 at Area.  Houston Lamar jr Milan Young beat Cameron at Region III in 13.87 nwi.

 

Boys 110 Hurdles   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Plano jr Charles Brockman is one of two returners (4th) and recorded a season best 13.75 (nwi) TX#2 at Area.  The other is Allen sr Bryce Douglas (6th) who won his Area in 13.59 (nwi) TX#1.  McAllen sr Josh McGowen was the fastest Region winner with his 13.88 (-3.2) at Region IV which is TX#2/US#9 wind-legal.

 

Girls 300 Hurdles   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

DeSoto sr Alexis Duncan struck State gold last year in 42.09 and has upped her game with a 41.20 all-time US#33 Region I title.  Houston Lamar jr Milan Young topped Region III in 41.97 TX#4/US#11.

 

Boys 300 Hurdles   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Another deeeeeep field!  Belton sr William Watson has a taste for more after last year’s silver and won Region II in 36.70 TX#4/US#5.  Meanwhile over at Region IV, McAllen sr Josh McGowen broke the tape in 36.67 TX#3/US#3.  And at Region I, Plano jr Charles Brockman was laying down the law with his own 36.70 TX#4/US#5, turning back the 36.95 TX#8/US#12 of Abilene sr Jesus Serrano who was State 4th last year.

Pearland Dawson sr Kameron Hypolite rode a healthy wind to 24-3.5 (nwi) TX#6 all-conditions for Region III gold, followed closely by North Shore soph Thomas Davis at 24-0.5 TX#9.  Guyer sr Ethan Toy is the lone returner (5th).

 

Girls Triple Jump   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Klein Oak sr Brianna Johnson looks to retain her title and spanned 41-2w (+3.2) TX#1/US#5 all-conditions to win Region II.  Seven Lakes sr Michelle Fokam hit 40-11 (nwi) TX#3/US#9 at Area and looks to improve from 8th a year ago.  Her 40-9 at Region III held off Dickinson fr Koi Johnson who leapt 40-6.

 

Boys Triple Jump   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Eisenhower jr George Nyakwol grabbed bronze last year and is the sole returner.  Permian sr Dexter Neboh won the Texas Relays crown at 48-10.5 (+1.5) TX#1/US#6 wind-legal.

 

Girls High Jump   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

The Woodlands sr Ellyana Long struck 2015 gold and won this season’s Area at 5-10.5 US#1.  Nelson soph Sanaa Barnes had a stellar freshman campaign with a season best 5-9 at Region, State silver, and the Texas Meet of Champions title – and has cleared 5-9 TX#3 this year.  Mayde Creek sr Samara Hodges has made 5-10 TX#2.

 

Boys High Jump   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

This field is bunched together.  Nelson sr Brandon Bowen is the defending champ and has made 6-10 TX#3 this season.  DeSoto sr CJ Gilmore has also cleared 6-10 TX#3.

 

Girls Pole Vault   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Smithson Valley jr Colleen Clancy is the top returner and looks to improve on her silver.  She topped her District at 13-6 TX#1/US#3.  Cypress Ranch soph Kaitlyn Banas and Marcus fr Mackenzie Hayward won their respective Regions at 12-9 TX#4/US#18.  Ryan sr Avery Stuchell was 4th in 2015.

 

Boys Pole Vault   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

NB Canyon sr Bailey Henderson seeks gold after tasting silver as a junior.  His season best is 16-7 TX#1/US#11 at District.  The other 16-footer at Regions was Tyler Lee soph Branson Ellis who topped 16-1.25 TX#3.

 

Girls Shot Put   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Nelson sr Leilyn Miles nabbed State silver and tossed an identical 48-0.25 TX#1/US#10 at Texas Relays this season.  Harker Heights sr Chyna Otis was 4th last year and hit 47-0 TX#3/US#21 at District.

 

Boys Shot Put   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

The Woodlands jr Adrian “Tripp” Piperi won State and then World Youth Games titles last year as a sophomore.  This year his PR has progressed to 69-1, 70-1, 70-3, 70-5.5 and then 71-0 to win Texas Relays.  That’s US#1, all-time TX#6/US#20, and all-time junior-class US#7/TX#2 (behind the great Michael Carter).  Atascocita sr Steven Daboub has been in Piperi’s shadow since District, but his Region silver 63-6 stands at TX#2/US#14.  Hightower jr Gabriel Oladipo earned 2015 silver.

 

Girls Discus   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

Ellison sr Jannia Price was the bridesmaid in 2015 and is seeking the top of the podium.  Her Region II winning 155-6 is TX#1/US#12.  Manvel sr Bellodgia Roberson had the next best 6A Region effort at 141-4 TX#8.  Keller jr Ryanne Johnson is the other State returner (6th).

 

Boys Discus   -   TX Rankings - US Rankings

The Woodlands jr Adrian “Tripp” Piperi is the defending champ in both throws and blasted a 204-3 TX#1/US#3 Texas Relays winner this year.  He capped off last season with a World Youth 6th in Cali, Colombia.  He’ll see a familiar face as Hightower jr Gabriel Oladipo was 9th at World Youth after 5th at State and has improved to 196-2 TX#2/US#8 at District.  Coppell sr Colin Echols was the State runner-up and will be in the title hunt.
